Interesting Fact
Yesterday I was watching some documentary on Channel 4 about the war on drugs, apparently in America the average sentence for the possession/dealing of cocaine is 1 year. Whereas the sentencing for possession/dealing of crack is up to 10 years.
- Cocaine: Used mainly by wealthy, white Americans. Professionals; Lawyers, bankers etc.
- Crack: Used mostly by poor, ethnic Americans. Residents of inner-city, poverty stricken areas.
Also research has found that on average whites use the same amount of drugs as blacks and Latinos, yet 9 out of 10 people in prison for drug related crimes are, you guessed it, black or Latino.
I just found it interesting that ‘the system’ which is supposed to be fair and just to all without bias, is far from so.
