Capitalism: A Love Story
So I watched this last night, although not all of it ‘cos it was on until 2am and i was exausted. I’m definitely gonna re-watch it soon and blog about it properky, so this is just really initial reactions to what I watched:
WE’RE BASICALLY ALL FUCKED (unless you happen to be one of the wealthiest people [top 1%])
Basically the whole system is corrupt, and I know, that part isnt really shock horror, its not like we were oblivious to corruption and thought everyone was kind and decent. But the extent to which this happened. The extent to which this HAPPENS (as I write this), is actually sickening. There was a part in it where this guy was talking about the Iraq war, he was like ‘you have to admit, despite the cost of the war and the lives lost and all those things our stock exchange has never been better!’ i.e forget about the hundreds, thousands of innocent lives lost, as long as we’re making money. Sickening.
Capitalism dosent work because it isn’t a democracy (although they’d have us believe it is) there was some document by a company (I forget which) that described it as a plutocracy; the top 1% controlling everything, and to their benefit. The top 1% earn more than the bottom 95% percent put together. Just think about how much money that is, and still they do things and bend laws, just to suit them. How much money do you even need?! Meanwhile average people, lose their houses, possessions and the little that they have. Sickening.
I always thought money was the root of evil, I just didn’t know how evil.
[A really long (longer than this) boring post to follow once I’ve watched the rest]
